Getting Started

On Valentine's Day, the day of hearts and roses, I asked my love "Where are we going for Valentine's Day?".  His reply...."A la bama".  (In true Forrest Gump fashion)
And so began our journey from Lewisville, Texas, to parts, as yet, unknown.
We have sold most of our worldly belongings, including house, cars,  furniture, you name it, and we have moved into a fifth wheel RV.  Jim's job allows him to work from home so as long as we can get cell phone service, home can be anywhere.
There are so many places we have never been and "we don't wanna miss a thing".

Our truck uses diesel fuel and it is easier to get the RV into a truck stop than into a gas station, so we stopped at a lot of truck stops on our way here.  We have a big truck pulling a big trailer....miles per gallon....well, not many.
Truck stops are interesting places with interesting people and interesting merchandise.

First stop in our search for warmer weather, Gulf Shores, Alabama.  So, for this week, we are parked in an RV park three blocks from the beach.  We are the only non-retiree snow birds in the park.
Yesterday, we got a taste of local flavor at Bubba's Seafood Restaurant.  Live music beginning at 3:00 PM.  (Can you tell they cater to the older set?) But the music was good and we stayed for a couple of hours.

They are celebrating Mardi Gras big-time here.  Mobile, Alabama, is the birthplace of Mardi Gras.  Who knew??  We have been told that the weather here was lovely last week. This morning was so cold, we opted not to watch the parade that marched right outside the gate of the RV park.  But after it was over, the park's float came through throwing beads and moon pies and we went out for that.  So we have our official Mardi Gras beads and Jim's happy with his moon pies.
Yes, I said it was  "so cold".  We intended to be in a warm place, but this ain't it.

So, we will continue to learn what it means to live in an RV and I will attempt to keep anyone who cares to know up-to-date on our location and the people we meet along the way.  Next stop, Florida.
If it turns cold there after we arrive, I am going to get a complex of some sort.  Here's hopin' for sunshine!
