One of our travel goals is to eventually visit all the major
league baseball stadiums. So far, Jane and I have been to Wrigley Field,
Detroit, Toronto, San Francisco, Texas (of course) and we added Tropicana Field
in Tampa.
On April 1, we bugged out and headed for Orlando (Kissimmee
to be accurate). As you can see from the
picture, they pack the motorhomes and travel trailers in pretty tight.
We went to Easter services at one of the park clubhouses and
then I spent some quality time with my peeps.
The next day was my birthday and after dinner some
birthday pie, yes birthday pie, we went and played mini golf.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they had elections at the RV park and Jane is now part of the royal family.
I played in a charity golf tournament at
Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, FL (one of my favorite courses) prior to
the main reason we are in Orlando, a trade show.
There are hundreds of natural springs in Florida and last
weekend we decided to visit one of them, Wekiwa (pronounced wuh-kee-vah)
Springs. Because this little lake is
spring fed, the water stays between 70 and 74 degrees, cold enough to be . . . “refreshing”.
Last Sunday we drove to Miami to attend a
Marlins game and check another stadium off the list. I have to say Marlins Park is the most
impressive stadium I’ve been to so far.
Because it rains so often and the heat coupled with humidity would make
baseball watching here downright unpleasant, they play “indoors”, the stadium
has a retractable roof. Everything about
the facility was very well done, from the views of downtown Miami to the
concessions and giant video board. The
only negative is the location, which is not in a good part of town.
On Friday, we head for Stone Mountain park, 16
miles east of Atlanta where we plan to catch a Braves game before moving on to
Ohio to see family and a Reds game.
